A workshop on: Education for Global Citizenship in the Lecture Hall at Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.

As part of the cultural activity plan of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science at the Royal Court Affairs, the library of Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque organized a training workshop titled “Education for Global Citizenship.” The workshop included the participation of 50 students from second-cycle schools and lasted for two days, from October 1-2, 2024. It was conducted by Ms. Buthaina bint Mohammed Al-Qassimiya, a trainer in the Educational Leadership Department at the Specialized Institute for Vocational Training for Teachers, held in the Lecture Hall at Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the importance of education for global citizenship, instill and enhance the concept of Omani identity on the global stage. Several key topics were addressed, including:
  • An introduction to education for global citizenship.
  • The necessity of preserving and promoting Omani identity globally, featuring examples of Omanis who have achieved international prominence and reflected the values of an Omani citizen proud of their national identity.
The concept of global citizenship views the Earth as a shared home for everyone, emphasizing the need to preserve it and regarding all humans as one family bound by tolerance and respect for the unique cultural identities of each nation. This training workshop aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040, which aims to meet the requirements of sustainable development while focusing on equipping the modern Omani citizen to interact with the world and uphold their Omani identity, rooted in Islamic values. These values form the foundation for engaging with globalization and interacting with diverse cultures worldwide.
